RE News Term 1 Week 4

Ash Wednesday

Last Wednesday 14th of February, we joined as a school community for Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent. Lent is the time for preparing, a time for changing. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert to prepare himself for His Mission of love. We are called to spend the 40 days of Lent preparing for Easter by turning our lives around, so that we can follow in the footsteps of Jesus and celebrate New Life with Him on Easter Sunday.

I would like to congratulate all of the children on their reverence during Mass. It was lovely to have

parishioners make numerous comments to Mrs McFadzean about the way in which the children conducted themselves throughout Mass. This is wonderful news as over the last couple of years the children have been working towards the goal of being an active participant during celebrations.

Well done boys and girls on achieving this learning intention !

Project Compassion Boxes

During our Ash Wednesday Mass we launched our participation in the Caritas 2018 Project Compassion Appeal and distributed a collection box and poster for each class and a collection box for each family.

Opening School Mass

I would like to extend a very warm welcome invitation to our Opening School Mass on Monday 26th February at 12pm.

Social Justice at St Finbar’s

Last week a group of Stage 3 children accompanied Mrs Platt and Mrs Borg at Our Lady of The Nativity in Lawson to attend a Just Leadership Day that was facilitated by Caritas Australia. The day gave us an insight to the world of poverty that many children and adults live in and showed us how they can help with implementing social justice initiatives at St Finbar’s.

This week our social justice group met and we are happy to announce that our new name for our social justice group is, The Justice League. Our Learning Intention for this term is raise awareness about social justice and how we can help others in need.
